Picked from September 12 to October 9 and matured in 60% new oak, it has a gorgeous, seductive bouquet of pure blackberry, bilberry, crushed iris petals and just a hint of licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and good cohesion and depth. The oak is seamlessly integrated on the finish, which lingers like a temptress. Two samples tasted, the second demonstrating a little more salinity on the aftertaste. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis and plums mingled with notions of cigar wrapper, sweet loamy soil and violets, it's full-bodied, velvety and layered, with superb concentration, lively acids and rich, powdery tannins. Perfumed and resonant, this is a profound young Pauillac that bears more of a resemblance to its neighbor Ch?teau Latour than to Pichon Lalande this year. Pichon Baron was one of the great deals of the en primeur campaign, and readers who purchased futures are to be congratulated on their foresight. The numbers speak for themselves: until 2000, Pichon-Longueville Baron produced some 350,000 bottles per year; since 2001, that figure has fallen to 160,000. Managing director Christian Seely's first decision on arriving at the property was to reduce production, focusing the grand vin on Cabernet Sauvignon growing on the deep gravel terraces opposite Ch?teau Latour that have always been the heart of this historic estate and which were the source of the great duo of 1989 and 1990 before being joined by other holdings after a series of acquisitions in the early 1990s. The results speak for themselves in the form of a series of excellent vintages, and things improved further with the construction of a new barrel cellar in 2006, permitting better temperature control and more precision during ?levage. In style, Pichon Baron these days has more in common stylistically with the depth and structure of Latour than it does with the perfumed sensuality of its sibling, Pichon Lalande; and in quality, it's clearly one of contemporary Bordeaux's greatest wines. It's hard to know whether 2010, 2016 or 2019 will emerge as the best Pichon Baron of the decade?and of Seely's tenure up to the time of writing?but what is certain is that the 2019 is a striking wine that any Bordeaux lover would want to have in their cellar. It will spend 18 months in a mix of new and used barrels. Classic Barton notes of cassis, scorched earth, burning embers, new leather, and violets emerge from the glass, and this beauty is full-bodied, massively concentrated, and structured on the palate, yet it has a beautiful elegance as well as a plushness in its texture. Nevertheless, it's not for those seeking instant gratification and is going to need 10-15 years of bottle age to hit maturity. It reminds me of the 1990 and is a great, great wine in the making. Medium-bodied with jaw-dropping elegance, the palate is finely textured and yet built like a brick house with a super taut backbone and exquisitely knit acidity. Undeniably stunning. “I loved it!” winemaker Nick Gislason told me when I asked him for his thoughts on the 2018 vintage. “Everything is just really perfumey with a lot of verve and a lot of freshness.       【蔵出しバックヴィンテージ！】フリーマーク・アビーのアイコン的単一畑シリーズ"ボッシェ・ヴィンヤード" ナパで16番目に設立されたワイナリーで、ナパのワイン産業発展に大きく貢献し続けてきたフリーマークアビー。1976年パリスの審判では、唯一、赤ワイン白ワインともに出品しました。 フリーマーク・アビーのアイコン的単一畑シリーズ"ボッシェ・ヴィンヤード" ハイウェイ29号の西側に位置し、約9haの畑。主にドライファーミングを実施し、ラザフォードらしいブドウを生み出す。暗いルビー色、花のようなノートにフルボディでしっかりとした果実味。 砂利質のローム層土壌。生育期には地下水脈により、新芽が育つのを促進する。さらに生育期が進むと、地下水脈はさらに深くなり、根の張るエリアを通り過ぎるため、ブドウの樹には適度なストレスがかかり、ブドウの熟度を高め、より複雑な香りをもたらす。 5日間低温醸しの後、ステンレスタンクにて24-30度で10-28日間発酵。フレンチオーク樽(新樽60%)で28ヶ月間熟成。 濃いルビー色の色調。ボッシェのカベルネの特徴は甘いブラックチェリーのアロマ。樽由来のスパイスと黒系果実のバランスが良い。しっかりとした香り、妖艶であ柔らかくなめらか、そして深みのある味わい。 FREEMARK ABBEY CABERNET BOSCHE CABERNET SAUVIGNON ブドウ品種：カベルネ ソーヴィニヨン 88% / メルロ 12% ワインアドヴォケイト：94+ポイント Drink Date 2018 - 2038 Reviewed by Robert M. Parker, Jr. Issue Date 30th Apr 2014 Source 212, The Wine Advocate The 2004 Cabernet Bosche Vineyard, which sits on alluvial, gravelly soils in Rutherford and is one of Napa’s most famous vineyards, is absolutely brilliant. The blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot spent 24 months in French oak. This one is still young for a 2004. Its dense purple color, big sweet kiss of cola, vanilla, cedarwood, oodles of black currants and dark cherries, a hint of licorice and unsmoked cigar tobacco, make for a classic almost Pauillac-like style of wine. This is youthful, full-bodied, promising and should hit its peak in another 4-5 years and last at least another two decades.

Medium-bodied, the palate has fantastic energy and beautiful poise, with bags of bright, crunchy black and red fruit plus a firm, fine-grained texture, finishing long and spicy. The intense heat of the vintage caused ripening to slow down and yielded a wine with just 13.7% alcohol, which is low for both the estate and Napa Valley in general. Spottswoode was one of the first estates in the valley to adopt a more moderate approach to farming and that really paid off in 2017, as a wine of this level in that year could have only resulted from impeccable farming.
