ナパ・ヴァレーで5年続いた干ばつの最後の年で、その5年の中では最も冷涼なヴィンテージ。凝縮感とともに綺麗な酸を感じるスタイル。インシグニア2016はワインアドヴォケイトにて99点を獲得！過去４度のパーフェクトワイン100点を獲得しているインシグニアですが、いずれもリリース直後のポイントではなく、数年の熟成を経て上方修正されての評価ですので、今回2016年はリリース直後のスコアとしてはこれまでで最高の評価です！

2016年は2～3年で飲み頃を迎え、30～50年間楽しむことができる圧倒的な力感とフィネス、エレガンスを併せもつ魅力溢れる1本です。

インシグニアは、1978年にカリフォルニアで初めて独自のブランドを持ったボルドースタイルのワインとしてリリースされました。ブドウはスタッグス・リープやラザフォードなどのカベルネ・ソーヴィニヨンが主体で、ステンレスタンクで発酵後、新樽100%のフレンチオークで22ヶ月間熟成されます。

Cabernet S 84%, Petit Verdot 10%, Malbec 3%, Cabernet F 3%, from estate-grown Napa Valley vineyards: 29% Las Rocas Vineyard (Stags Leap District), 23% Suscol Vineyard (South Napa), 20% Yountville Vineyard (Oak Knoll District), 18% Barboza Vineyard (Stags Leap District) and 10% Home Ranch Vineyard (St. Helena). 24 months in 100% new French oak from coopers Taransaud, Dargaud Jaegle, Demptos, Marcel Cadet and Sylvain.

Bottled in January 2019, the 2016 Insignia is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec, aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose is a little reticent to begin, needing a fair bit of coaxing to reveal beautifully beguiling notions of wild blueberries, warm blackberries, black currant cordial, cloves and cedar chest with nuances of camphor, yeast extract, charcuterie and candied violets. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has fantastic elegance and depth, revealing loads of subtle floral, black fruit and earthy layers with a firm, very finely grained texture and seamless freshness, finishing with epic length. 13,400 cases were made.

This is a lengthy, powerful blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 3% each of Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Together they coalesce as one seamless, complex experience of black currant, brambly berry and black pepper, with accents of graphite, pencil and cedar. Lovely density and intensity with dark berries, blueberries and inky undertones with hints of spice, chocolate and walnuts. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a flavorful finish. The texture and length are fantastic here. Complex. Hints of smoky wood at the end. This needs three to five years more in bottle age. Exciting wine. Try after 2022.
