1829年に設立された名門シャンパーニュ・メゾン、ボランジェ。本拠地であるアイ村にて、創業時から変わらぬ厳格な基準によって造られるボランジェのシャンパーニュは、上質なピノ・ノワールを活かした、複雑なアロマ溢れるふくよかな仕上がりで、他とは一線を画す独自のスタイルを確立しています。

その高い品質は世界で認められており、1884年には英国王室御用達を拝命。またボランジェのシャンパーニュは、名作映画「007」シリーズに度々登場しており、主人公ジェームス・ボンド愛飲のシャンパーニュとしても有名です。一貫して妥協のない高品質な造りにより生み出される、格調高いシャンパーニュは、多くの人々を魅了する存在であり続けています。

「ラ・グラン・ダネ・ロゼ」はラ・グランダネのアッサンブラージュに、8～10%の赤ワイン“コート・オーザンファン”を加えて造られています。赤ワインが加わることで、コクやまろみ、果実味が生まれます。

■2014年ヴィンテージ情報：ヴィニュロンの知見と忍耐が生きた一年■
雨の多い秋と冬を越えて迎えた2014年。春から夏にかけて、シャンパーニュ地方は乾燥した晴天が続き、6月は半世紀で一番の日照時間を記録しました。一転して、夏は極めて冷涼で、特に8月は気温が低く、肌寒い日が続きました。ボランジェの自社畑の収穫は、9月15日に一斉に始まり、わずか9日間ですべての畑の作業を完了。収穫には2週間ほどかかるのが一般的であることから、これは記録的に短い作業期間と言えるでしょう。

収穫期に好天に恵まれたおかげで、果実の質と状態が良好に保たれ、完璧な熟成度と酸のバランスをもった良質なマストとなりました。2014年は、まるでヴィニュロン（栽培家）の忍耐力と判断力を試すかのように幸運と不運が交互にやってきた年でしたが、結果としてラ・グランダネに相応しいブドウが生産されました。

■テクニカル情報■
2014年ヴィンテージのブレンド：ピノ・ノワール63%、シャルドネ37%。19クリュ：ピノ・ノワールは主にアイとヴェルズネ、シャルドネはシュイイとオワリ。コート・オー・アンファンの赤ワインを5%使用。
発酵はすべて熟成したオーク樽で行う。ボランジェでは、非常に質の高い収穫だけがヴィンテージとなります。
熟成：自然なコルクで封をし、アペラシオンで定められた期間の2倍以上、セラーで熟成。
ドザージュ: 1リットルあたり8グラムと控えめ。

The 2014 Rose La Grande Annee is airy, gracious and full of energy. Crushed rocks, white pepper, red berry, mint and blood orange lend striking aromatic intensity and presence. Finely cut and taut, the Rose is a nervy Champagne that needs time to come together. The Rose is blended from a base of the Blanc plus 5% still red Pinot from Bollinger’s Coteaux des Enfants vineyard in Ay. Perhaps because of its later disgorgement vis-a-vis the Blanc, the Rose is a bit tight today. Disgorged: August, 2021. Dosage: 8 grams per liter. - By Antonio Galloni on March 2022

Disgorged with eight grams per liter dosage, Bollinger's 2014 Brut La Grande Annee Rose wafts from the glass with aromas of tangerine oil, red berries, warm biscuits and English walnuts. Full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it's a broad, vinous Champagne, with a deep core of fruit and racy acids, complemented by a delicate pinpoint mousse and concluding with delicate and enlivening phenolic grip on the finish.

In the 2014 vintage, Bollinger has once again produced both a Grande Annee and Grande Annee Rose. The fruit of a cooler, rather rainy season punctuated by a sunny month of June, in 2014 Bollinger opted to pick late but quickly, harvesting all of their fruit in a mere 10 days; and the house's blends for Grande Annee favored the crus of Verzy and Verzenay, and an unusually high proportion of Chardonnay (at 39%). The result is two very elegant, precise, giving Champagnes, with all the mid-palate intensity one expects from Bollinger but defined more by purity and precision than by power. Charming and expressive out of the gates, they're also built to age with grace. Bollinger's Denis Brunner describes the 2014 vintage as one of pure "classicism" for the house, after the more "baroque" 2012s, and that's a very concise summation of the distinctions readers will find in the glass, which I'm at a loss to better. But I'll add that the quality of these 2014s is indicative of the serious agronomy that distinguishes Bollinger's vineyards as, along with Roederer's, the best maintained of any big houses' in the region. Both wines reviewed here come warmly recommended.
