僅か0.11haの樹齢80年の樹から2樽のみできる最高峰モンラッシェ!

サントーバンで最も偉大なドメーヌのひとつがマルク・コラン。1944年生まれのマルクは1970年、26歳の時にドメーヌを創設した。当初はサントーバンとシャサーニュ・モンラッシェに6haの畑をもつのみだったが、80年代から90年代にかけて19haまで畑を広げ、サントーバン、シャサーニュ・モンラッシェのほか、ピュリニー・モンラッッシェとサントネイにも畑をもち、26のアペラシオンを手がけるまでに成長した。

モンラッシェを所有する16の造り手のひとりであり、10a68caの区画はシャサーニュ側の最上部、ギィ・アミオの2つの区画に挟まれた形で位置する。マルクは2000年代前半に完全引退。後を継いだのは3人の息子と一人娘。その後すぐにピエール・イヴが独立(ピエール・イヴ・コラン・モレ)。2017年、次男のジョセフが自分自身のドメーヌを立ち上げたため、現在、三男のダミアンが当主であり造り手。

「モンラッシェ グラン・クリュ」は、ブルゴーニュの「黄金の丘」と呼ばれるコート・ドールにある、極小さな特級畑。偉大なワインの代名詞であり、白ワインの最高峰です。果実の強い厚みを感じ大変長い余韻。生産量は平均で400本程。ボディの厚みとミネラル分の奥深さ。真価を発揮するには長い年月が必要。最低でも15年は待ちたいと当主は言う。

香り、味わいともモンラッシェの優しい気品に満ちている。新樽香に南国フルーツと蜜、ナッツの香り。甘み、酸み、旨みが1本の線のようにきれいにまとまっていて、品の良さが感じられます。

There's a single 250-liter barrel of Colin's 2022 Montrachet Grand Cru, refurbished with a mixture of new and used staves to avoid entirely new oak. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, peach and confit citrus mingled with white flowers, mint and pastry, it's full-bodied, satiny and seamless, with a layered, multidimensional core of fruit and a long, mineral finish.

The 2022 vintage is the finest I can remember tasting at Domaine Marc Colin―and with years such as 2017 and 2020, the last decade has been mostly benevolent. As readers will remember, now that the domaine is smaller following his two brothers' secessions, he is able to be ultra-precise about harvest date, sampling parcel by parcel, he tells me, and small volumes of wine mean longer elevage is feasible too. Percentages of new oak are modest, but foudres and larger barrels are also out of the picture, Damien finding most coopers' 228-liter barrels more consistent and in any case, better adapted to vinifying smaller quantities.
