Parker, Jr. Issue Date 30th Dec 2014 Source 216, The Wine Advocate The 2012 Pinot Noir En Famille (550 cases produced) comes from Goldridge soils, is 100% barrel-fermented, and is aged in older, neutral demi-muids as well as new oak. Medium-bodied and elegant, with more of the red fruit/forest floor spectrum than its siblings, it reveals soil undertones, underbrush, red and blackcurrants, sweet cherries and pomegranate characteristics. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. Run, don’t walk - take your checkbook or credit card out and splurge for the Luc Morlet Wine Express. Morlet, who comes from a family of winemakers in Champagne and consults at the Peter Michael Winery where his brother Nicolas is in charge of the winemaking, has his own operation on Route 29 north of St. Helena. His Napa cuvees were reviewed in Issue #215. His Sonoma offerings are remarkable wines that are about as good as wines made from Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah can be. Morlet is not only a fabulous winemaking talent, he knows how to bring the French savoir faire of complexity, elegance and precision to the ripe, concentrated, intense fruit of California. VINOUS：93 ポイント Stephen Tanzer, May 2014 (fermented entirely in puncheons): Medium red, a bit darker than the Coteaux Nobles. Less fruity and spicy on the nose today, with the strawberry and cherry aromas currently dominated by mocha, graphite and leather. Much tighter in the mouth as well, but showing a lovely balance between its savory earth and brown spice elements and its deep red fruits. Best today on the long finish, which reveals sweet tannins and a light touch. Try this with squab with foie gras en papillote, says Morlet.

Parker, Jr. 92+ Drink: 2015-2025 $90-$115 The top Pinot Noir cuv?e, as well as the smallest at 450 cases, is the 2012 Pinot Noir Joli Coeur (meaning Beautiful Heart). The most multidimensional of these three Pinots, it exhibits a deep ruby/plum/purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of raspberries, black cherries and damp forest floor notes, a full-bodied, lush, round, generously endowed style, and beautiful purity, texture and length. It comes across as a grand cru from the Northern C?te de Nuits. It should drink well for a decade or more. VINOUS：94 ポイント Stephen Tanzer, May 2014 (made from the best section of the Coteaux Nobles vineyard, on the second ridge in from the coast): Good deep red. Subdued aromas of red fruits, spices and graphite. Sweet, rich and lush, but with excellent acidity giving definition and an exhilarating sappy quality to the middle palate. A hint of salinity is perfectly countered by sweet red fruits. Superb depth and lift on the spicy back end, with the tannins fully coated by fruit. I loved the pungent aromatic qualities of Morlet's 2011 pinots but these 2012s will probably be longer-lived.
