The nose is pronounced, leading with its mineral aromas of crushed dark stones. It smells like dissolved minerals, delicate peppery accents, black plum, red apples, lavender perfume, and sage. The aromatics are quite profound in this vintage, and on the palate, it’s full-bodied and more structured, with ripe tannins and a good deal of depth and richness, with the minerality shining through. Long on the palate, it’s generous all the way through, and while it feels approachable upfront, more structure comes through on the finish. Allow it some time in cellar and drink 2028-2058. Decanter：98 ポイント The summer was so arid in 2022 that the vines shut down and ripening was halted until mid-August rains arrived. This helped to preserve acidity in the grapes, giving sensational freshness to balance the rich and finely structured palate. Masseto 2022, then, combines the best of both worlds: fruit ripeness and concentration, and freshness and poise. It's not as immediately seductive as the 2021, but there is so much potential in this long-lived vintage. Scents of cool, damp earth, dark hedgerow berries, Mediterranean scrub, and cocoa and wood give a sense of what is to come once time has untangled everything. Zingy, crunchy acidity steals the show early on, segueing into a mouthful of succulent yet dense dark berries and spice imbued with plenty of energy. Then some balsamic herbs and floral notes lighten the palate, before a touch of salinity and some bitter herbs emerge on the finish, with a refrain of bright cherry. The wine immediately impresses with freshness, brightness and clarity. It shows firm but integrated tannins with a subtle salty note attributed to sodium-rich clays. According to proprietor Lamberto Frescobaldi, the magic of Masseto lies in its ability to stretch and consolidate across the palate, wrapping itself seamlessly in a kind of symbiosis that feels both expansive and complete. His point comes alive in this edition. Crafted for collectors, this vintage is intense and full yet never tiring, remaining solar and generous. The élevage is deliberately restrained with reduced wood influence despite the use of four coopers, including tonnelleries Taransaud and Baron, and 80% new oak, allowing the Merlot to remain dulcet and precise. Hints of wilted rose petals emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine balance and filigree tannins. It's very harmonious with a bravura finish. What a superb Malconsorts this will be. - By Neal Martin on November 2024 “I’d rather have 2023 every year than 2024,” quips Alec Seysses. There are two simultaneous grouped tastings, one for the Brits and the other for the “rest of the world.” “We conducted a green harvest as we knew the vintage would be large. It’s a gamble because if the summer is dry then the grapes can be smaller. We picked the first whites on September 1 in Puligny Folatieres, which we slightly chaptalized, and then on September 6 we did the Puligny Combettes. We finished with the reds on September 15. The September heatwave was surprising because usually it is July or August. We have never picked under such warm temperatures, and so everything was picked in the mornings before 1 p.m. We have never had such a large picking team: between 60 and 70 people. We did not want the fruit too warm, but our tanks are temperature-controlled, so we cooled the fruit to 20°C. The yields are around 45-48 hl/ha for the reds. We destemmed a little more than we normally do because of the volume, and we got caught out by some of the vats at the beginning [being too full], so overall, around 20-30% were destemmed. Maybe that was a little more than we needed to do? The alcohol levels are around 13.5% with a couple of exceptions at 14%. Our cellars were colder in 2024, and we have more efficient air conditioning, so the malo was slower and later than usual. In what is overall a charming vintage, this is one cuvee that will certainly demand patience. Harvest at Domaine Dujac began on August 29. At the time, Jeremy Seysses thought of the vintage as potentially reminiscent of 2018-tasting the wines this winter, he feels that they're more delicate, while also admitting that he was even more cautious about extraction in 2022. Whatever the apposite analogy, the result is clear: a superb portfolio of beautifully balanced wines that unite charm and density. Readers, of course, will be familiar with the outlines of the Dujac approach to producing red Burgundy: organic farming, fermentation with a predominance of whole clusters and elevage in barrels largely sourced from Tonnellerie Remond. None of that seems to have changed in 2022, despite a new winery where stainless steel vats have replaced concrete. The wines retain, nay exalt in, their distinctive identity. The palate is medium-bodied with blackberry and bilberry fruit and saturated tannins. It’s harmonious, though it needs a little more mineralite toward the finish. Harvest at Domaine Dujac began on August 29. At the time, Jeremy Seysses thought of the vintage as potentially reminiscent of 2018-tasting the wines this winter, he feels that they're more delicate, while also admitting that he was even more cautious about extraction in 2022. Whatever the apposite analogy, the result is clear: a superb portfolio of beautifully balanced wines that unite charm and density. Readers, of course, will be familiar with the outlines of the Dujac approach to producing red Burgundy: organic farming, fermentation with a predominance of whole clusters and elevage in barrels largely sourced from Tonnellerie Remond. None of that seems to have changed in 2022, despite a new winery where stainless steel vats have replaced concrete. The wines retain, nay exalt in, their distinctive identity. Hints of lemon verbena, chai and white chocolate furnish the nose that is subtle in style and appears to "grow" in the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a lime-infused entry. Offering up aromas of raspberries, cherries, sweet spices, orange zest and peony, it's full-bodied, supple and seamless, with a deep core of fruit, sweet, powdery tannins and a long, sapid finish. There is more underlying muscle and tannin here, however, and I would be surprised to see that assert itself a little more obviously in bottle. Harvest at Domaine Dujac began on August 29. Published: Jan 19, 2024 vinous：(94-96) ポイント (94-96) Drinking Window 2028 - 2052 From: Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024) The 2022 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a little more intensity on the nose than the Clos Saint-Denis: principally black fruit laced with hints of licorice and clove and veins of blueberry and cassis. The aromatics expand with aeration, gaining vigor all the time. The medium-bodied palate has grippy tannins and quite a bold structure but may not have the precision of the very best that I have encountered.
