It mingles pristine aromas of spring blossom, honeysuckle, yellow apple, ripe pear, quince, white peach, lemon flesh with a refreshing splash of fennel and verbena tea. Expanding vertically on the palate, this full-bodied, slightly oily-textured and concentrated white radiates beauty with excellent flavor definition and remarkable tension. - By Nicolas Greinacher on April 2023 I caught up with the dashing Isabel Ferrando one day before she was headed for South Africa to visit her daughter, who was doing an apprenticeship at Mullineux Winery. Back in 2002, Ferrando purchased the estate, then called Domaine Saint-Prefert, from the Serre family. Since then, she has worked diligently to position her winery, now named after herself, at the very top of the quality hierarchy in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Over time, Ferrando increasingly felt that blending many different parcels enabled her to craft wines with the greatest complexity. As a result, the two Cuvees Collection, Charles Giraud and Reserve Auguste Favier, have seen their final release with the 2019 vintage. The estate currently covers 24 hectares of vines in the appellation of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, of which 21 are in production. Certified biodynamic since 2020, Ferrando always keeps three hectares without plants for up to five years, allowing the soils to regenerate. Only two hectares are planted with varieties destined for white wines, such as old vines Clairette Rose, a pink color mutation from Clairette with an average age of around 80 years, and Roussanne. Since the 2020 vintage, Ferrando only produces four separate wines: two whites, a traditional white and a Cuvee Speciale Vieilles Clairettes, and two reds, a traditional red and Colombis. Today, Ferrando produces fragrant wines of remarkable elegance. The only caveats are the prices, which have been rising considerably over the past few years. ワインアドヴォケイト：94 ポイント The Wine Advocate RP 94 Reviewed by: Joe Czerwinski Release Price: NA Drink Date: 2023 - 2030 Aged partly in wine globes (glass) and partly in demi-muids, the 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Vieilles Clairettes offers up just the merest hint of pencil shavings, with more emphasis given to the white peach fruit of the grape and a tinge of baking spices. It's perhaps a bit tamer and less flamboyant than previous vintages, but it's still impressive, with a cool, refreshing finish. By the end of my day, I was-of course-running late when I arrived at Domaine St-Prefert, so we focused only on the latest bottled wines. Baptiste Olivier, their consultant, joined us. A former banker who threw herself wholeheartedly into becoming a vigneronne, Isabel Ferrando deserves a great deal of credit for her work in revitalizing the southern portion of Chateauneuf du Pape and inspiring others in the sector through her success. Now, the entire enterprise has been rebranded as Famille Isabelle Ferrando, as her daughter, Guillemette, has joined Isabel at the property. The vines are being worked biodynamically. A powerfully scented nose evokes fresh honeydew melon, Meyer lemon, quinine and white flowers, and smoky iodine and mineral nuances build as the wine stretches out. Sappy, concentrated and incisive on the palate, offering vibrant citrus and orchard fruit flavors along with honeysuckle, sweet butter and spicy ginger flourishes.
