新たに特級畑や1級畑を増やし成長を続けるモレ・サン・ドニの雄「デュジャック」

創設者のジャック・セイスはベルギー出身で、ドメーヌ創設の前に2ヴィンテージをブルゴーニュで過ごし、ジェラール・ポテルの元、ドメーヌ・プス・ドールでワイン造りを学んだ。その間に、DRCのオベール・ド・ヴィレーヌやアルマン・ルソーのシャルル・ルソーらと親交を深めている。 そして1968年に4.5haのドメーヌ・グライエを買い取り、自らの名前、ジャックをもじってドメーヌ・デュジャックと名付けたのだ。現在はジャックの息子、ジェレミーとアレックがそれぞれ醸造と販売を担当し、ドメーヌを実質的に引き継いでいる。ジャックの妻もジェレミーの妻もアメリカ人で、ジェレミー夫人ダイアナは醸造学を修めたエノローグである。

「モレ・サン・ドニ 1er モン・リュイザン ブラン」は、クロ・ド・ラ・ロッシュの上に位置する標高の高い1級畑。デュジャックがここに植えたシャルドネから白ワインをリリースしたのは2000年のことだった。村名モレ・サン・ドニの白ワインとは性格を異にするタイトなミネラル感。香りもシトラスが中心であり、じつにエレガントな白ワインに仕上がっている。

Wafting from the glass with notions of crisp stone fruit, white flowers, bread dough and oatmeal, the 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Monts Luisants Blanc is medium to full-bodied, racy and incisive, with tangy acids and a seamless, harmonious profile.

Harvest at Domaine Dujac began on August 29. At the time, Jeremy Seysses thought of the vintage as potentially reminiscent of 2018-tasting the wines this winter, he feels that they're more delicate, while also admitting that he was even more cautious about extraction in 2022. Whatever the apposite analogy, the result is clear: a superb portfolio of beautifully balanced wines that unite charm and density. Readers, of course, will be familiar with the outlines of the Dujac approach to producing red Burgundy: organic farming, fermentation with a predominance of whole clusters and elevage in barrels largely sourced from Tonnellerie Remond. None of that seems to have changed in 2022, despite a new winery where stainless steel vats have replaced concrete. The wines retain, nay exalt in, their distinctive identity. The 2022 Morey-Saint-Denis Monts Luisants Blanc 1er Cru has a little more charm than I found on the 2021 last year. Hints of lemon verbena, chai and white chocolate furnish the nose that is subtle in style and appears to "grow" in the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a lime-infused entry. There’s fine bitter lemon edginess here with a touch of reduction towards the slightly pithy finish. - By Neal Martin on November 2023
