シャトー・レヴァンジルは、ペトリュス」や「ラ・コンセイヤント」、さらには「シュヴァル・ブラン」といった名だたるシャトーに隣接する、非常に恵まれた絶好の立地を所有するシャトーです。

レヴァンジルの歴史は18世紀半ばにまで遡り、1741年に「CH.FAZILLEAU」という名前で設立されました。その後、幾度か所有者を変えた後、1957年にルイ・デュカス氏が購入。デュカス家は当時、霜害により荒廃していた畑の再建と、レヴァンジルの名声を取り戻すことに貢献しました。

1990年にドメーヌ・バロン・ド・ロスチャイルドが所有者となり、それ以来、セラーの改装などを行い、ますます品質が向上。実質的にはペトリュスやラ・フルール・ペトリュスと比較しても、 遜色がないと言われています。また、 市場に出回る数が少なく見つけ出すのも難しい、稀少なワインとしても有名です。

「シャトー・レヴァンジル」は、ポムロールとサン・テミリオンの境界に位置しており、砂利混じりの粘土・砂質土壌に22haの畑を所有しています。醸造はラフィットの技術責任者エリック コレールの下、伝統的な手法でワイン造りを行っています。メルロによる果実味とカベルネ フランの骨格やフィネスが共演する偉大なワインです。熟した果実香が豊かで、静けさの中に深い奥行きを感じさせた口当たりも重厚です。

Complex and subtle aromas of black cherries, chocolate and violets with hints of nutmeg and hazelnuts that open to a medium to full body, with fine and polished tannins that integrate nicely then grow beautifully at the end. 69% merlot, 30% cabernet franc and 1% cabernet sauvignon. Better to be patient and taste after 2027.

The 2021 L’Évangile is one of the triumphs of the year, especially considering L'Évangile is now farmed biodynamically. Sharply reduced yields―20 hectoliters-per-hectare versus upper 30s for the rest of the appellation―produced a deeply sensual wine. The 2021 spent 18 months in barrel, 40% new (significantly lower than in the past), with 15% of the wine aged in terra cotta. Those are only details though. What is most encouraging about L'Evangile is how far the property has come in the last few years. Superb. The 2021 L'Évangile is a model of contemporary excellence. It marries classicism with modern approaches to farming and winemaking.
