イタリアワインの歴史を変えた、名家アンティノリが誇る伝説的スーパータスカン。豊かなミネラルにより美しく研ぎ澄まされた崇高な逸品。

イタリアワインの名門アンティノリ。その歴史は1385年、ジョンバンニ＝ディ・ピエロ・アンティノリ氏がフィレンツェのワインギルドに加盟したことから始まります。1970年代にはスーパータスカン「ティニャネロ」と「ソライア」を生み出し、その実力を世界に知らしめました。現在はトスカーナ、ウンブリア、ピエモンテなどイタリア全土に10以上のワイナリーを所有。「土地とのつながりに感謝する」という理念のもと、その土地のテロワールと歴史を反映した多彩なワインを造り出しています。

「ソライア」は、造り手のユニークな発想により、リリースされたワイン。ピエロ氏は当時、サンジョヴェーゼの固いタンニンと強い酸味を補うために、白ブドウを混醸していたキャンティ・クラシコの造り方に疑念を抱き始めます。そしてサンジョヴェーゼの品質を上げ、その魅力をきちんと引き出す醸造法を追求。その結果、1971年にサンジョヴェーゼにカベルネ・ソーヴィニヨンをブレンドしたティニャネロをリリースしました。

その後、1978年にソライアが誕生。ソライアは、ティニャネロの成功によりサンジョヴェーゼとカベルネ・ソーヴィニヨンの好相性が証明されたことをきっかけに「その比率を逆にしたらどうか？」という遊び心から生まれました。ティニャネロのセパージュはサンジョヴェーゼが7割、カベルネ・ソーヴィニョンが2割であるのに対し、ソライアはカベルネ・ソーヴィニョンが7割、サンジョヴェーゼが2割で構成されています。

そのような遊び心で造られたソライアは、2000年にはワイン・スペクテーター誌でイタリアワインで初めて世界第1位を獲得するなど、伝説的スーパータスカンに君臨。「照りつける太陽」という名に相応しく、ボルドーワインにも引けを取らないエレガンスと力強さで飲む人を魅了してやみません。

外観は深いルビー色。ブラックベリーや黒スグリなどの黒系果実のアロマに、シナモンやミント、バルサミコのニュアンスがグラスの中で空気に触れることで、華やかで官能的な香りとして立ち上ります。夏の暑い太陽を浴びたことで、ブラックプラムなど果実の旨味が溢れる、開放的なスタイルを形成。徐々にサンジョヴェーゼ由来の溌剌とした酸が見事に調和し、ベルベットの様に滑らかなタンニンと共に上品なフィニッシュを演出します。長い余韻に感じる煙草や潰したブラックチェリーなどの風味が魅力。力強さとエレガンスを兼ね備えた、圧倒的存在感を放つ逸品です。

The 2018 Solaia continues to develop beautifully. Resonant and ample on the palate, with tons of vibrancy, the 2018 offers terrific vibrancy as well as character. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, blackberry jam, licorice and spice build as the Solaia gains momentum over time. The 2018 is dense and beautifully layered, yet retains the mid-weight structure of this super elegant vintage. - By Antonio Galloni on February 2022

The Marchesi Antinori 2018 Solaia reveals a silky and elegant personality, and the wine steps away from some of the more robust fruit weight and dark concentration that we've seen in the past. This elegant vintage prizes fruit purity and focus with black plum, cassis, blue flower, pencil shaving and lots of sweet spice from the oak that recalls clove and toasted almond. The blend is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parts Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. The fruit is harvested at the Antinori family's Tenuta Tignanello at the heart of the Chianti Classico appellation. The percentage of Cabernet Franc used in the blend is the ultimate Solaia wild card. In this vintage, the Franc has been increased to 7%, and that number is expected to be even higher in 2019 as the vines get older and the fruit more complex. Production of Solaia is 65,000 bottles in this vintage. This is a beautiful wine, but if pressed I must admit a preference for the 2018 Tignanello (the other celebrated wine crafted at this property). The 2018 Solaia is delicious on all fronts as expected, but the 2018 Tignanello struck at my heart strings. Either way, these are stunning results.

There is some exciting news to report from Antinori's Tenuta Tignanello (which I visited the last week of July). The Antinori family was able to acquire a new parcel measuring 15 hectares adjacent to their historic Tignanello plots, thus giving new space and production possibilities to the various wines made at the celebrated estate (where both Tignanello and Solaia are born). Very aromatic and lively on the nose with currants, fresh herbs, white pepper and cherry blossoms. Full-bodied with a vertical, multilayered structure and ultra fine tannins. Velvety texture. Extremely long and focused. Complex and succulent. This is the smallest production of Solaia ever. Great length.
