The medium-bodied palate is satiny and seamless, reluctantly revealing its mineral-driven flavors. Chalky and minerally yet certainly not lacking in perfumed fruit, its long, slowly evolving finish hints that this wine has much more to offer as it unwinds in bottle. Domaine Jean Francois is a new collaboration between Sanford and Francois Labet, owner of Chateau de la Tour, the largest landowner in the Clos Vougeot and the only winery located within the Clos itself. The de la Tour wines are imported into the US by the Terlato Wine Group, which purchased a majority stake in Sanford in 2005. John Terlato, Sanford winemaker Trey Fletcher and Labet decided to work together on a new cuvee made from the old vines planted at Sanford. "We followed Francois's winemaking program, issuing thoughts and suggestions from pruning through to bottling," Terlato notes. If this first bottling of Domaine Jean Francois is any indication, this will be an exciting project to follow in the future. White pepper, flowers and mint lift a core of citrus and orchard fruit as this brilliant, crystalline Chardonnay shows off its considerable pedigree. This is another exceptional showing from John Terlato and Francois Labet and winemaker Trey Fletcher. - By Antonio Galloni on June 2022 This is a terrific duo of wines from the Domaine Jean Francois, the joint venture between Sanford Winery owner John Terlato and Burgundy’s Francois Labet. Terlato and Labet draw from the best parcels in Sanford & Benedict, so the wines should be great. They certainly are in 2020. I give a very slight edge to the Chardonnay.

(Oct 2021) The 2019 Pinot Noir Sanford and Benedict Vineyard The Twelve Rows is magnificent. Rich and textured on the palate, with tremendous depth, the 2019 exudes class. Inky dark fruit, lavender, spice and tobacco are wonderfully vivid. The 2019 is endowed with so much complexity and sheer pedigree. What a wine! - By Antonio Galloni on June 2021 Now in its second release, this joint venture between Jean Francois Labet and John Terlato is really starting to hit its stride. Winemaker Trey Fletcher turned out two fabulous wines in 2019. Fletcher favors a stark, minimalist style, with manual punchdowns, a fair amount of stems in the Pinot, no SO2 during long elevage and no racking until bottling. As for the wines, they are truly special. Then again, they should be, as Labet, Terlato and Fletcher have their choice of blocks at Sanford & Benedict. ワインアドヴォケイト：95 ポイント The Wine Advocate RP 95 Reviewed by: Erin Brooks Release Price: $90 Drink Date: 2021 - 2036 The 2019 The Twelve Rows Chardonnay comes from old vines in the heart of the Sanford & Benedict vineyard, and combines ripe California fruit with a backbone of graphite-like reduction. It fermented in barrel, underwent full malolactic conversion and was matured for 16 months in 33% new French oak. Its aromas are lush and open, offering white peaches, quince paste, saline and roasted almonds with honeyed undertones. The palate balances bright acidity and citrus, saline top notes with nutty bass tones, finishing uplifted, juicy and flavorful. 2,050 cases were produced.
