Initially somewhat reserved, this wine opened in the glass to reveal lush, plummy fruit and a savoury, smoky element and mineral notes. It is only with time that one realises the depth and strength of the tannins, so richly are they enrobed. An immense finish lingers long after you have finished. Superb. Drinking Window 2029 - 2049. Thibault felt able to go a bit further with his Richebourg in 2019, giving it a couple or three punchdowns at the end, which releases more sugar so as to keep the fermentation going for an extra week. Really quite gorgeous depth of aromatics. Peonies. Plump more than precise. Very suave and sensual right across the palate, slightly more at front than back, that very light astringency to finish, maybe the punching down. A little liquorice touch too. Finishes very well. This is going to be at least a very good Richebourg - and maybe more. Tasted: November 2020 vinous：(94-96) ポイント (94-96)pts Drinking Window 2026 - 2055 From: La Lumiere Noire: 2019 Burgundy - Cote de Nuits (Dec 2020) The 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru is matured with 35% whole bunch, and five of the six barrels are new. It has a very perfumed bouquet of floral red berry fruit laced with crushed rock and sous-bois scents. The palate is medium-bodied with solid tannins, more savory than, say, Grivot's Richebourg, with liberally sprinkled cracked black pepper toward the finish. On the palate, there is great density and firm tannins, but there is also exuberance and charm, even at such a youthful age. This will continue to improve for decades to come. That has been true on both times I have tasted it recently. Readers will have to be patient. Those who can afford it will be rewarded with a towering, statuesque Saint-Estephe. With a bit of air the fruit starts to emerge, but this is a very reticent Cos that does not show the opulence that it often does in its youth. Gravel, smoke, incense, tobacco and dried flowers gradually unfurl over time, hinting at a very bright future. The 2019 is impressive. That's all there is to it. Full-bodied, broad and enveloping, it's polished and seamless, its ample chassis of fine, velvety tannin entirely concealed in its deep core of succulent, crunchy fruit. Beautifully integrated at this early stage, the last decade has witnessed a number of changes at this address, including a trend toward less aggressively late picking, cooler fermentations and elevage with fewer rackings and more moderate percentages of less heavily toasted new oak: in 2019, the results speak for themselves. Cos d'Estournel may neighbor Lafite-Rothschild, but its vineyards are very different, rising from the banks of the Jalle de Breuil-the small stream that divides Pauillac and Saint-Estephe-to a height of fully 26 meters above sea level. Cos's clay-gravel vineyards occupy the plateau on top, as well as straddling the slopes, scrolling round the hillside from the east-facing holdings overlooking Lafite to fully south-facing holdings that look out over the Gironde. It's surely this variety of expositions-as well as an average vine age of 55 years-that lend the wine its completeness and plenitude. Soil studies, undertaken in 2003, inform parcel-by-parcel farming and winemaking, as well as replanting, where Cos's important percentage of Merlot is gradually tending to diminish. The last two decades have witnessed considerable evolution: herbicides were banished and experimentation with cover crops began in 2002; a new gravity-flow winery was built in 2008; and winemaking and picking dates have evolved. In the past, the wines sometimes flirted with extremes; but in pushing the boundaries, sometimes one exceeds them. Today, harvest is a touch earlier than was the case a decade ago; fermentation temperatures are cooler and the wines racked less frequently; and percentages of new oak are both much more modest, in 2019 amounting to only 55% (mainly from Taransaud, Fracois Freres and Berthomieu) and, above all, much less heavily toasted. The result? Wines of greater textural refinement and more vibrant fruit flavors, with as much intensity of flavor and persistence as ever. I suspect, what's more, that today's more reductive elevage will see them age very well indeed. Proprietor Michel Reybier is surely proud that two decades of unremitting investment in quality are today consistently delivering some of the Medoc's very finest wines.

DRC Montrachet元栽培責任者の手がける新世代トップ・ブルゴーニュ! シャサーニュ村トップのひとつだった父ベルナール・モレから2007年に畑を譲り受け、瞬く間に頭角を現したトマ･モレ。父や、カリフォルニアで最新の醸造を学ぶなど研鑽を積んできました。 その卓越した感性と才能にいち早く着目したのがDRC(ドメーヌ・ド・ラ・ロマネ・コンティ)当主オベール・ド・ヴィレーヌ氏。トマは自らのドメーヌと並行して2007年～2009年迄DRCモンラッシェの栽培責任者を担当し､その類まれなる才能を如何なく発揮しました。自分のドメーヌに集中する為､3年でその職を退きましたが､ここでの経験は何物にも替えがたい素晴らしいものだったと語っています。 彼のワインは恵まれたテロワールの素晴らしさを最大限に活かし､得られる全ての要素を余すところなく表現した見事な造り。確かな知識に裏打ちされた巧みな造りと天性とも言えるその優れた感性との融合から生まれるワインは他の追随を許しません。栽培は以前からビオロジックを実践していましたが､いくつかの畑では既にビディナミへ移行済です。DRCで働いていた時に実践していた全く同じ栽培法を取り入れており､さらなる高みへと登り続けているのです。 「シャサーニュ・モンラッシェ 1er レ・ボーディーヌ」は、0.43ha。このキュヴェもマレシャル・シュヌヴォットと同様に2011年が、トマ・モレとしてはファーストリリースとなるキュヴェ。 土壌は白色粘土で、標高の高さを考えると、表土層は異常に厚く、畑は白ブドウの栽培に適している。フィロキセラ以降、畑は荒廃し、1960年代になって、ようやく植え替えられた。父ベルナールの時代からレ・ボーディーヌを名乗っていて、トマはこの区画に密植にすることで樹にテンションをかけた栽培を試みており、功を奏している。 ザンブラゼに隣接した2区画から生まれる。7樽生産(約2,100本分)された。ここも爪ぐらいの雹が北側の区画に降り、収量が減ってしまったそうだ。蜂蜜、アーモンド、青りんご、塩漬けハーブ、白い花などの品のある豊かな香り。果実の熟度も十分にあり、ふくよかで肉厚。エレガントなミネラル感や酸があり、余韻も長い。 ■テクニカル情報■ 畑面積：2区画 計0.43ha メタヤージュ / 2011年産1st VT DOMAINE THOMAS MOREY CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET 1er LES BAUDINES ドメーヌ・トマ・モレ シャサーニュ・モンラッシェ 1er レ・ボーディーヌ 生産地：フランス ブルゴーニュ コート・ド・ボーヌ シャサーニュ・モンラッシェ 原産地呼称：AOC. DRC Montrachet元栽培責任者の手がける新世代トップ・ブルゴーニュ! シャサーニュ村トップのひとつだった父ベルナール・モレから2007年に畑を譲り受け、瞬く間に頭角を現したトマ･モレ。父や、カリフォルニアで最新の醸造を学ぶなど研鑽を積んできました。 その卓越した感性と才能にいち早く着目したのがDRC(ドメーヌ・ド・ラ・ロマネ・コンティ)当主オベール・ド・ヴィレーヌ氏。トマは自らのドメーヌと並行して2007年～2009年迄DRCモンラッシェの栽培責任者を担当し､その類まれなる才能を如何なく発揮しました。自分のドメーヌに集中する為､3年でその職を退きましたが､ここでの経験は何物にも替えがたい素晴らしいものだったと語っています。 彼のワインは恵まれたテロワールの素晴らしさを最大限に活かし､得られる全ての要素を余すところなく表現した見事な造り。確かな知識に裏打ちされた巧みな造りと天性とも言えるその優れた感性との融合から生まれるワインは他の追随を許しません。栽培は以前からビオロジックを実践していましたが､いくつかの畑では既にビディナミへ移行済です。DRCで働いていた時に実践していた全く同じ栽培法を取り入れており､さらなる高みへと登り続けているのです。 「シャサーニュ・モンラッシェ 1er レ・マシュレル」は、シャサーニュ村の北部に位置し、斜面を少し下ったところにある1級畑。2011年産からリリースされているキュヴェで、1970年と1980年に赤土粘土層の深くに植えられたブドウから産する。フレッシュなレモンや白い花、蜂蜜や硬質なミネラルを感じさせる。濃密で厚みが有り、粘性も高い。リッチだが、シャープな酸があり伸びが有り、余韻も長め。 ■テクニカル情報■ 畑面積：0.32ha メタヤージュ/2011年産1stVT DOMAINE THOMAS MOREY CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET 1er LES MACHERELLES ドメーヌ・トマ・モレ シャサーニュ・モンラッシェ プルミエ・クリュ レ・マシュレル 生産地：フランス ブルゴーニュ コート・ド・ボーヌ シャサーニュ・モンラッシェ 原産地呼称：AOC. レオヴィル三兄弟とも呼ばれるグラン・クリュ第2級のシャトー。 メドック格付け2級。ポワフェレ男爵がラス カーズ家との婚姻により取得し、この名が付きました。レオヴィル三兄弟と呼ばれ、格付けシャトーの中でも人気の高いワインです。80haを所有し、3つのレオヴィルの中でも特に多様な土壌に恵まれています。他二つにくらべメルロの比率が高く、その分早くから楽しめる傾向があります。 シャトー・レオヴィルの歴史は1638年まで遡ります。いく度の遺産分割・相続をへて、1840年現在のレオヴィル・ポワフェレが誕生。1855年にはメドックのワインを対象とした格付が作成され、ポワフェレは栄えある第2級の認定を受けました。ほまれ高きアペラシオン・サンジュリアンに位置し、多様な礫質のテロワールを有するそのブドウ畑からは、芳醇かつ複雑な味わいのワインが生まれます。1920年、現オーナーであるキュヴリエ家がシャトー・レオヴィル・ポワフェレ(58ヘクタール)およびシャトー・ムーラン・リッシュ(22ヘクタール)の所有権を取得しました。ポワフェレの畑は現在80haに広がっています。しなやかなタンニンをふくみ、若い段階から親しみやすく、サンジュリアン特有のバランスとエレガンスは健在です。 豊かなブーケ、バランスのとれた味わいが評判で特に2019ヴィンテージは華やかな果実味が印象的です。夏が非常に暑く乾燥していた年の特徴を反映し、凝縮した果実味が印象的。口当たりはなめらかで洗練された印象があり、口に含むと多様な果物の香り、味わいが広がります。 CHATEAU LEOVILLE POYFERRE シャトー・レオヴィル・ポワフェレ 生産地：フランス ボルドー サン・ジュリアン 原産地呼称：AOC. Bright red cherry/plum fruit, blood orange, mint, spice and menthol fill out the layers with effortless grace. In some tastings, the 2019 has come across as quite powerful, while in other moments it shows greater finesse. Either way, the 2019 is positively stunning. I very much admire its energy and persistence. Full-bodied, velvety and polished, it's broad and enveloping, with an ample core of fruit, ripe tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a long, precise finish. Invariably the most sumptuous of the three Leovilles, featuring some 35% Merlot, the 2019 is a terrific effort that will offer a wide drinking window. With some 80 hectares under vine, Leoville Poyferre's parcels are inter-fingered with those belonging to the Delon and Barton families by the river and on the plateau of Saint-Julien. The soils are cultivated less frequently and less deeply these days, and conversion to organic methods is gradually being rolled out, parcel by parcel, some being easier to farm this way than others. Winemaking features a five- to eight-day cold soak, followed by comparatively long macerations, and maturation is in 80% new oak, with lots destined for new barrels completing their malolactic fermentation in barrel. Combined with an elevated percentage of Merlot in the vineyards (though the tendency here, as elsewhere, is to replant with more Cabernet Sauvignon), this delivers the richest, fleshiest, most flamboyant of the three Leoville estates, but while it's generally the most open out of the gates of the three, that hasn't come at the expense of longevity.
