A substantial young Barolo, the 2020 offers notable mid-palate density and tons of pure explosive energy. Savory and mineral notes abound, but at this stage, the 2020 is a Barolo of fruit and texture. Practically seamless tannins pull it all together. I have a slight preference for the 2021, but it is neck and neck between these two great Barolos. Red and blue fruit aromas add hints of sweetness, but the bouquet quickly moves to iron ore and dusty ferrous notes. Of these three single-vineyard Barolos, Arione has the finesse, Cerretta has volume and structured tannins and Francia, well, has an even greater sense of tannic intensity. Like Roberto Conterno's other wines from this controversial vintage, this wine shines with brilliant and unexpected purity and intensity that is harder to find in its peers. It shows a deep understanding of the potential of a warm growing season, and the Nebbiolo is supple, velvety and uncharacteristically exuberant (for a grape whose elegance starts famously with understatement). Francia in Serralunga d'Alba evokes power and profound depth, with black and purple fruit highlights, rusty nail, cr?me de cassis, grilled rosemary and reddish rock or baked terracotta. The wine carries its considerable fruit weight with grace, and at the end of the day, it offers a complete portrait of vintage, variety and vintner. vinous：97 ポイント 97pts Drinking Window 2027 - 2057 From: 2017 Barolo, Part 2: The Late Releases (Oct 2021) The 2017 Barolo Francia is dense, rich and explosive right out of the gate. Bright red cherry fruit, blood orange, kirsch, sage and menthol gradually appear as the 2017 starts to open in the glass. Deep, layered and explosive, the 2016 dazzles from start to finish. It possesses remarkable textural depth and mind-blowing balance. Even so, it has shut down considerably since I first tasted it. Rüncot is a wine that typically needs time to be at its very finest. That is especially true for the 2016. - By Antonio Galloni on January 2025 This is a stunning set of wines from Elio Grasso. As always, I tasted the 2021s next to the preceding vintage, which provided a terrific opportunity to compare the wines. I found the 2020s just as compelling as they were last year. The 2021s are the proverbial “iron fist in a velvet glove.” While many 2021s offer a good deal of relatively early approachability, the 2021s here require cellaring. Interestingly, today the Ginestra Casa Matè and Gavarini Chiniera feel a bit inverted in their personalities. The Ginestra comes across as a touch linear in its construction, while the Gavarini shows a bit more volume. I also tasted several vintages of the Barolo Riserva Rüncot that suggest there are great things in store here. These remain gorgeous, beautifully crystalline Barolos. VINOUS：100ポイント 100pts Drinking Window 2026 - 2041 From: 2019 Barolo: Back on Track (Jan 2023) The 2016 Barolo Riserva Rüncot is quite possibly the single greatest wine I have tasted in more than twenty years I have been coming here, with the possible exception of the 1989s and 1990s. Deep and powerful, but not at all heavy, the 2016 dazzles from the very first taste. Dark cherry/plum fruit, menthol, lavender, licorice and mocha saturate the palate in a Barolo of extraordinary richness and intensity. The 2016 spent four years in 100% new oak, and yet there is no trace at all of wood. Boasting noes of baked red cherries, polished leather, savory sweet tobacco, menthol, and cigar box, it offers a plush a rounded texture on the palate, with a nicely balanced, salty, mouthwatering feel, a ripe core, and its polished oak spice perfume lasting on the finish. It delivers a sense of intensity, clarity and momentum that is rare to find in this warm vintage. It is also a highly complex expression that shows a slow but very interesting evolution in the glass with dark fruit aromas that are fused seamlessly with spice, tarry resin and blue flower. This is a wine with big bones that moves with incredible grace and poise. I would recommend holding the bottle for at least five more years. At the conclusion of my tasting of 2011 Barolo, I concluded that the Bussia vineyard in Monforte d'Alba (with a smaller piece in the Barolo township) performed consistently better in the hot 2011 vintage than any other in the appellation. It is also one of the largest vineyards at 299 hectares, although it is divided into a half-dozen subsections that are farmed by a large number of producers. In general, Bussia occupies a higher altitude with vines planted from 210 and 460 meters above sea level. It boasts excellent exposures with mostly southern and southwestern positioning. These factors have greatly contributed to the quality of fruit in 2011. Higher elevations helped to keep the vines cooler during the hottest moments of the summer. Vines are also well established in this vineyard with extensive root systems that help guard against drought conditions. Of the various estates that farm Bussia, Poderi Aldo Conterno shows exceptional results with this set of new releases. Collectors looking to put aside a few bottles of 2011 Barolo should start here. The Giuseppe Rinaldi 2020 Barolo Tre Tine is still tight and narrow at this young stage, but it will surely flesh out with more time in bottle. There are delicate fragrances of tart berry fruit, cassis and blue flower over a streamlined and very silky mouthfeel. The Ravera vineyard near the winery measures three hectares across two distinct parcels. The first piece that faces Le Coste was planted in the 1980s, and the second parcel that looks toward Novello was planted in the 1990s. In its first vintages, the Tre Tine was pretty imposing and linear from a tannin perspective, but the 2020 stands out for its exquisiteness and balance. Like most wines in this vintage, it is on the lighter side, but that is in no way a bad thing. - By Antonio Galloni on November 2023 Sisters Marta and Carlotta turned out a gorgeous set of 2020 Barolos that embody the style of the year nicely. The wines are aromatic, gracious and super-expressive. I imagine the 2020s will drink well with minimal cellaring. Other than that, not much has changed here in terms of how the wines are made. The Rinaldi sisters continue to honor their parents' legacies, crafting wines that meld together old-school soul with contemporary touches of added precision. Sadly, Brunate was damaged by frost in 2021 and required considerable replanting, so Barolo production will dip for at least the next several years.

Wafting from the glass with aromas of dark minty berries mingled with notions of iris, licorice and cigar box, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a velvety attack that segues into an elegantly dense and structured mid-palate that's nicely framed by sweet but abundant tannins, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. The high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon comes through loud and clear. All the elements are so well balanced. The 2021 is dark, racy and full of Lafite sensuality, all kicked up by the natural intensity of the year. Dark red/purplish fruit, mint, lavender and rose petal are all on display. Medium to full-bodied, with exceptional purity, superb concentration, and a long, intense, ripe, 40-second finish, this is a magnificent example of Latour. As the wine sat in the glass, scents of roasted espresso and toasty new oak emerged. This classic will require considerable cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2050. Try after 2028. ワインアドヴォケイト：98 ポイント The Wine Advocate RP 98 Reviewed by: Lisa Perrotti-Brown Release Price: NA Drink Date: 2026 - 2075 The 2017 Latour is a blend of 92.1% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.8% Merlot and 0.1% Petit Verdot with 13.3% alcohol and an IPT of 66. Deep garnet-purple in color, it starts off a little broody before exploding from the glass with powerful scents of ripe blackcurrants, blackberry pie and preserved black cherries plus touches of cedar chest, fenugreek, cumin seed and charcoal with emerging wafts of violets, dark chocolate, star anise and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, this may be one of the most elegant, great Latours ever, revealing layer upon layer of fresh, crunchy black fruits with a vast array of exotic spice and floral nuances, framed by super ripe, super fine-grained tannins, finishing very long with mineral sparks coming through. This is so nuanced and perfumed that I imagine, in 50 years, this wine could be mistaken for a great red Burgundy. In 2017, some areas inland and to the north of Pauillac were frosted (plots that go into Les Forts and Pauillac), but its enviable proximity to the estuary meant the L’Enclos was completely spared. “The viticulture, as well as winemaking, have dramatically changed the styles of wine a vintage like 2017 can produce,” Frederic Engerer commented during my Primeurs visit, adding a reference to the vintage’s phenomenal ability to produce wines that are, “approachable now and have the ability to age.” Winemaker Helene Genin added that 2017 was the last year for Cabernet Franc, which is a minor component in Les Forts de Latour this year. It was pulled out at the end of 2017.
