The wine should be ready to drink fairly soon after release yet will have the substance for long ageing.

Unwinding in the glass with aromas of smoky orchard fruit, crisp peach, beeswax, mocha, warm spices and toasted nuts, it's full-bodied, taut and chiseled, with a deep and concentrated core of fruit, a beautifully refined pinpoint mousse and a long, electric finish. All the energy and cut that one could wish for is combined with the house's trademark vinous, complex style to deliver a wine of real character and elan. Interestingly, the 2013 is much more expressive than the 2012 was at this stage. The 2013 was picked at 11.12% potential alcohol. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. Concluding with a long, aromatic and intensely chalky finish, it is a brilliant Champagne that will offer a broad drinking window. This bottle was disgorged in June 2021 with seven grams per liter dosage.

Seamless and elegant, the 2023 is an absolute delight. Blood orange, spice, mint, tobacco and dried flowers all build in the glass. The 100% stems are present but beautifully integrated. The 2023 is a superb wine for the year and for Raen. It has plenty of youthful, coastal energy, but is not quite as austere as the two other Pinots in the range. Vertical and explosive, the 2021 possesses mind-blowing intensity and dynamic energy to burn. The 2021 is a heady, racy wine that captivates all the senses. Tobacco, mocha, cedar, leather, dried herbs, menthol, licorice and plum saturate the palate in a wine that dazzles from start to finish. The 2021 was bottled in late September 2023, much later than most wines, yet it is so expressive today. It was magnificent from barrel, and it is every bit as breathtaking today. Quite simply, Les Carmes is on another level. Highly refined and elegant on the first palate, this is a full-bodied, intense and rich yet crystalline, very elegant and highly stimulating Schlossberg with fine tannins and bitters on the complex, endlessly saline and well-balanced finish. This is great, complete and touching Riesling and one of the finest Schlossbergs produced in 2022. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024. The last few years have not been getting any easier, not even in Alsace. Increasingly, drought and heat are affecting the vines, and the younger they are, the more they suffer. In any case, the Barthelme family is fortunate to have such a high proportion of old vines that are not affected by drought stress. Even in 2022, it was possible to produce a magnificent Schlossberg Riesling that is among the best I have ever tasted from this Riesling-granite site, which is endangered due to its barrenness. It seems unlikely that this wine could be topped by a 2022 Pinot Noir - Les Saintes Claires. But that's how it was, and in the end, I left the 100 points as they were and didn't revise them. There aren't that many 100-point Pinots in our database, and if they do exist, they haven't come from Alsace before. Is Alsace now a new stronghold of Pinot Noir? Certainly not. But the region is developing rapidly in this regard. Nevertheless, I believe that this Barthelme Pinot is a rare stroke of luck not only for the family but also for the entire Alsace and for all Pinot Noir lovers. Here, in this vintage, everything was just right, and the wine is a magnificent expression of a small but very special limestone plot that is planted in high density with the very best genetics. Although I have only been tasting Albert Mann reds for 10 years, the development of the estate over this short period has been so successful that it has become a beacon in France. It is therefore fortunate that the next generation is ready and waiting, or is already having a noticeable influence, with Jacky and Marie-Therese's son Antoine. By the way, the first grand cru Pinot Noir from the Hengst (formerly called Grand H) is also terrific, not to mention the Gewurztraminer from the Furstentum. Stuart Pigott Senior Editor VINOUS：96ポイント 96pts Drinking Window 2028 - 2055 From: 2023 Wachau and Lower Austria: Mercurial Weather Gods Smiled in the End (Jul 2024) The 2023 Gruner Veltliner Ried Zwerithaler Kammergut Smaragd is a site still owned by Melk Abbey. The wines made from this site were historically reserved for the abbot. These vines were planted in 1907 and have immense genetic variety, including a small proportion of other historic varieties like Heunisch, aka Gouais Blanc. Located on the eastern fringe of Weissenkirchen, along the Schildbachgraben, this is like an amphitheater looking southeast across nine terraces, shaded as of mid-afternoon. Gentle, subtle moss on the nose comes with a slight overtone of citrus. The palate is almost viscous, so fluid, but so fine-boned, immensely dense and rounded but without heaviness.
