レオヴィル三兄弟とも呼ばれるグラン・クリュ第2級のシャトー。 メドック格付け2級。ポワフェレ男爵がラス カーズ家との婚姻により取得し、この名が付きました。レオヴィル三兄弟と呼ばれ、格付けシャトーの中でも人気の高いワインです。80haを所有し、3つのレオヴィルの中でも特に多様な土壌に恵まれています。他二つにくらべメルロの比率が高く、その分早くから楽しめる傾向があります。 シャトー・レオヴィルの歴史は1638年まで遡ります。いく度の遺産分割・相続をへて、1840年現在のレオヴィル・ポワフェレが誕生。1855年にはメドックのワインを対象とした格付が作成され、ポワフェレは栄えある第2級の認定を受けました。ほまれ高きアペラシオン・サンジュリアンに位置し、多様な礫質のテロワールを有するそのブドウ畑からは、芳醇かつ複雑な味わいのワインが生まれます。1920年、現オーナーであるキュヴリエ家がシャトー・レオヴィル・ポワフェレ(58ヘクタール)およびシャトー・ムーラン・リッシュ(22ヘクタール)の所有権を取得しました。ポワフェレの畑は現在80haに広がっています。しなやかなタンニンをふくみ、若い段階から親しみやすく、サンジュリアン特有のバランスとエレガンスは健在です。 豊かなブーケ、バランスのとれた味わいが評判で特に2019ヴィンテージは華やかな果実味が印象的です。夏が非常に暑く乾燥していた年の特徴を反映し、凝縮した果実味が印象的。口当たりはなめらかで洗練された印象があり、口に含むと多様な果物の香り、味わいが広がります。 CHATEAU LEOVILLE POYFERRE シャトー・レオヴィル・ポワフェレ 生産地：フランス ボルドー サン・ジュリアン 原産地呼称：AOC. Bright red cherry/plum fruit, blood orange, mint, spice and menthol fill out the layers with effortless grace. In some tastings, the 2019 has come across as quite powerful, while in other moments it shows greater finesse. Either way, the 2019 is positively stunning. I very much admire its energy and persistence. Full-bodied, velvety and polished, it's broad and enveloping, with an ample core of fruit, ripe tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a long, precise finish. Invariably the most sumptuous of the three Leovilles, featuring some 35% Merlot, the 2019 is a terrific effort that will offer a wide drinking window. With some 80 hectares under vine, Leoville Poyferre's parcels are inter-fingered with those belonging to the Delon and Barton families by the river and on the plateau of Saint-Julien. The soils are cultivated less frequently and less deeply these days, and conversion to organic methods is gradually being rolled out, parcel by parcel, some being easier to farm this way than others. Winemaking features a five- to eight-day cold soak, followed by comparatively long macerations, and maturation is in 80% new oak, with lots destined for new barrels completing their malolactic fermentation in barrel. Combined with an elevated percentage of Merlot in the vineyards (though the tendency here, as elsewhere, is to replant with more Cabernet Sauvignon), this delivers the richest, fleshiest, most flamboyant of the three Leoville estates, but while it's generally the most open out of the gates of the three, that hasn't come at the expense of longevity. The palate is mind-blowing, with a cashmere texture that unravels on the palate and continues on for minutes. It’s full of superbly complex, ethereal character and mouth-feel, One of the wines of the vintage. As glorious as it may be to taste now, this is one for your deep cellar. Broad-shouldered and muscular, its rich, powdery tannins are already seamlessly integrated; and though it's labeled at 15% alcohol, far higher than the great vintages of yesteryear, it avoids any sense of over-ripeness. Jean-Philippe Delmas is delighted with his 2019s, and justly so, as this rich, dramatic and unusually powerful vintage is a great success for Ch?teau Haut-Brion (and its neighbor, La Mission Haut-Brion). In the vineyards, a touch more Cabernet Sauvignon is being planted these days, but the evolution is subtle, as the 2019 blend remains very much in line with tradition at this address, at 49% Merlot and 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance Cabernet Franc. That predominance of Merlot, combined with Haut-Brion's warm mesoclimate, have delivered an above-average alcohol level, labelled at 15%. On the white side of the ledger, we can expect a touch more Sauvignon Blanc in the future, as Delmas notes that S?millon tends to lose its acidity rapidly in warm vintages. In both colors, the vineyard team are working to mitigate the effects of climate change and minimize the quantities of copper employed in treatments throughout the year. In the cuvier and chai, winemaking remains very classical, with fermentation in Haut-Brion's proprietary two-tier stainless steel tanks, designed to maximize the quantity of high-quality free-run juice; malolactic fermentation in tank; and maturation in new oak barrels, some 80% of which are produced in house by S?guin Moreau (complemented by purchased barrels from Demptos and Taransaud). White grapes are whole-cluster pressed with great attention to pH, the musts protected with dry ice, and bottled with some 25 parts per million free sulfites, without much in the way of dissolved carbon dioxide. Jeb Dunnuck：98-100 ポイント Compared to the La Mission Haut-Brion, the 2019 Chateau Haut-Brion is more backward and mineral-laced, with a dense purple color as well as notes of blueberry liqueur, black cherries, new leather, scorched earth, graphite, camphor, liquid rock-like minerality, and an almost Hermitage-like burning embers character. It doesn't have the overt power of Mouton, nor the sexiness of Chateau Margaux, yet it builds slowly and incrementally, with flawless balance, full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannins, and a magical finish. My money is on this being one of the all-time greats from this address, in the same league as the 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016, and 2018. The first idea on the nose is the rich ripe fruit of the vintage and then all the detail starts to kick in. There are definitely some peonies accompanying the multiple red fruits. On the palate the wine offers richness and delicacy, ripeness and fresh fruit, muscle and length. All the boxes are more than ticked! 14% alcohol. Tasted: November 2021 ジャスパー・モリス ★★★★★ 97-100ポイント 2019, Clos St-Denis Grand Cru, Laurent Ponsot Fresh raspberry id my first thought, but the bouquet delivers a lot more than that. The fruit is utterly magical, swarming across the palate. One of Burgundy’s great wines. It is not as deep as I remember the 2018, but in poise and balance and sheer class it is unmatchable. This shows the hedonistic brother-in-law of Musigny aspect of Clos St-Denis with still a spice or two in the mix, and the smart structure that comes out of Laurent Ponsot’s winemaking. This for me is a class and a half better than either of the two big Chambertin beasts. Brilliant harmony. Laurent tells me that this too is touching 15% but I do not see the alcohol at all on the palate. It is all about the pH says Laurent. Vastly intense raspberry with a clean crunchy finish. Well-framed and compact wine. Never-ending procession of currant, berry and black cherry fruit, together with licorice, earth and just a hint of black truffle. 90% cabernet sauvignon, 9% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Give this until 2028 to show its true greatness. Wafting from the glass with arresting aromas of cassis, blackberries and cherries mingled with violets, cigar box and warm spices, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and seamless, its velvety attack segueing into a layered, concentrated mid-palate framed by exquisitely powdery tannins and ripe acids, and concluding with a long, perfumed finish. This rivals the 2010 and 2016 as the greatest Lafite of the decade, and of those three vintages, it's clearly the most sensual and demonstrative out of the gates. The blend contains fully 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and attained a modest 13.4% alcohol. Today, Chateau Lafite Rothschild amounts to some 110 hectares planted to some 900,000 vines (including 4.5 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon in Saint-Estephe). If that figure strikes readers as smaller than it used to be, that's because Lafite has ripped up some less optimally situated plots that never tended to produce wine fit for inclusion in the grand vin. As of 2021, what's more, organic conversion is underway (15 hectares are already farmed biodynamically), and hedges and flowering borders, planted with native species, now begin to break up the monoculture of the vine. Cover crops, too, have been added to the viticultural team's agronomic arsenal and are delivering good results in parcels with more humid or clay-rich soils. In the winery, Lafite is meticulously traditional: the grapes are sorted twice, once optically, and see a classical maceration in wooden and cement tanks with pump-overs and some use of the gentle "air pulse" system that disrupts the cap and oxygenates the ferment without the need for a full pump-over. Malolactic fermentation, as ever, is in tank, and the wine matures in barrels that are mostly produced in-house, with a light toast and favoring the forests of Allier and Nevers. Each vintage is racked three times, traditionally, with one egg white fining (which requires up to 8,000 eggs). As is the case almost everywhere in the M?doc, the tendency is for less and less Merlot in the assemblage. Eric Kohler describes 2019 as the ideal growing season, which saw a hydric deficit at just the right moment to precipitate ripening; and the result is a wine of irreproachable classicism and elegance. Whether the 2010, 2016 or 2019 Lafite ultimately emerges as the best of the decade is a question that well-heeled wine lovers will have immense pleasure debating over the decades to come, but it is clear that 2019 is the most sensual and aromatically expressive at an early age. All the elements are so wonderfully woven together. It's as if all the Chateau Margaux signatures are dialed up to eleven, but without losing any of the classic Margaux character. The purity of the red-toned fruit is just breathtaking. The Merlot was picked early, but then rain during harvest delayed the ripening of the Cabernets, which turned out to be a huge advantage. It unfurls to reveal exquisitely defined black fruit infused with graphite, Japanese nori and just a hint of potpourri and crushed stone. This is supremely well focused, refined and correct, so much so that you would think it comes from a cooler growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant, filigreed tannins that envelop the senses. Flavors of blackberry and bilberry, tinged with sea salt and black pepper, merge into a slightly more sensual finish that is still quintessentially Margaux. I used the word "effortless" in my note from barrel, and that rings true in bottle, though maybe there is now even more persistence. Quite stunning. Neal Martin. Incredible notes of blackcurrants, blueberries, sandalwood, cedar, and loads of floral tones all dominate the bouquet, and this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, flawless integration in its tannins, acidity, and fruit, building structure, and an almost 'iron fist in a velvet glove' like mouthfeel. Seductive, rich, mouth-filling to the point that you really understand what that means. Just pops out of your mouth, with evident density of luscious blackberry and brambled raspberry fruit but also vertical climb through the palate. Violet notes marry with baked earth, grilled liquorice, tension and seduction. Highest level of Cabernet Franc in the blend in recent history, and first time that they have used all of the Cabernet Franc available in the vineyard - also first time to have this touch of Cabernet Sauvignon since the Rothschilds arrived at the property. Have I tasted a better l'Evangile? Certainly not at this stage, and one of the very few wines in 2019 that I can say without question approaches a perfect score. I don't give 100s at En Primeur but this is off the scale delicious, and I already can't wait to taste it in bottle. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it's a broad, textural wine with a richly layered core of fruit, succulent acids and ripe, supple tannins that reflects the warm, dry vintage. As usual, it's a Merlot-dominant blend, complemented by some 16% Cabernet Franc and now 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2019 vintage marks a period of transition at L'Evangile. Most obviously, it's the last vintage produced by Jean-Pascal Vazart, before Juliette Couderc and Olivier Tregoat took the reins at this Pomerol benchmark, sandwiched between the likes of La Conseillante, Cheval Blanc, Vieux Ch?teau Certan and Petrus. But it's also a waypoint in the life of the vines, fully 22 hectares of which have been replanted since 2001, and which now have an average age of 15 years. In warmer, drier vintages, canopies are being hedged lower to mitigate against excess sugar accumulation; systematic de-leafing is no longer employed; cover crops are protecting the soils; and a row of Cabernet Sauvignon is increasingly making it into the grand vin, traditionally a blend of more or less 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Attempts are also being made to rein in this wine's tendency to opulence: the 2019 already saw only 75% new oak instead of entirely new barrels, and the technical team is refining cooperage choices (80% of the barrels are made in house at Lafite), looking for more discreet toasts adapted to Evangile, and experimenting with amphorae and now a foudre. Of course, timing harvest is crucial, and more and more the vineyard is picked by soil type instead of by block. The 2019 l'Evangile already reflects some of these evolutions?just as it does the richness and maturity of which Evangile's Merlot is capable in a warm, dry vintage such as this?and it will be exciting to follow them to their conclusion in the years to come.
