メドック格付け二級に匹敵すると称されるサン・テミリオン第一特別級Aシャトー。果実の凝縮感に富んだ、気品に満ちたスタイルが魅力！ シャトー・フィジャックは、シャトー・シュヴァル・ブランとともにサン・テミリオン地区を代表するシャトーの一つ。2022年9月の格付け更新時に、サン・テミリオン第一特別級Aに昇格。ガロ・ローマンの時代にフィジャキュスが別荘を建て、自分の名をつけたと言われる、2世紀にまで遡る長い歴史を誇ります。驚くことに、現在シュヴァル・ブランの畑となっている土地も、かつてはフィジャックの畑だったという、素晴らしいテロワールを備えたこの地区における最古のシャトーの一つです。 サン・テミリオン村から遠く離れたポムロルとの境いに、一時は200haの広大な面積を所有していましたが、土地の分割を行い、現在の畑面積は約40ha。シャトー・シュヴァル・ブランと同様の、鉄分豊かな砂利を備えた土壌のため、右岸地区では珍しく、メルローよりカベルネ・フラン、カベルネ・ソーヴィニヨンを多く栽培しています。 「フィジャック」は、カベルネ・ソーヴィニヨン、カベルネ・フランの2つの品種で60％近い比率を占めるユニークなブレンド比率で力強さと心地よさを兼備しています。 ブドウは手摘みで収穫。果実を傷つけないよう、容量の小さいカジェットに入れて運びます。選果台にて選果を行い、除梗後に2度目の選果を行うことで傷のない果実のみを選定。フレンチオークで15～17℃で4日間程低温マセラシオン(醸し)を行い、約30℃で3週間アルコール発酵します。その後、新樽でマロラクティック発酵を行い、18ヵ月熟成。異なる樽で仕立てたワインをブレンドすることで品質を均一化しています。 非常に濃い色調で力強い味わいながら、気品に満ちたスタイル。口当たりが柔らかく、若くして愉しむこともできますが、熟成を待ち、真価が発揮されてからコルクを抜いていただくことをおすすめいたします。 ■2019年ヴィンテージ情報■ ヴェンダンジュ：9月13日から10月7日まで 天候と収穫状況：2019年の始まりは、春と冬が交互にやってくる天候に特徴づけられた。5月初旬には遅霜を伴う異例の寒波が訪れ、フィゲアックのスタッフは総動員されましたが、幸いにもブドウの木に被害はありませんでした。6月中旬からは、乾燥した晴天が続き、ブドウの木は全速力でそのサイクルに追いついた。夏の間にブドウがゆっくりと熟すことで、アロマが凝縮された。葉の間引きを制限することで、ブドウが太陽にさらされるのを和らげ、フレッシュさを保っている。収穫はFIGEACの早い時期に始まり、収穫量は少ないものの、その品質で私たちを喜ばせてくれた。 前例のない天候がブドウの木のサイクルを刻み、私たちのチームが戦略的な選択をしたことで、非常に偉大なシャトー・フィジャックを切り開くことができた。2019年は、その歴史においてベンチマークとなるヴィンテージであり続けるだろう。ワインはすべての表現において注目に値する：バランス、フレッシュさ、3品種の完璧な熟成。カベルネはブルーベリーやマラ・ド・ボワのような華麗な花や果実のニュアンスで表現している。貪欲なアタックは濃密。メルローのテクスチャーに包まれた撫でるようなミッドパレットまで調和が続く。そのバランスは非常に長いフィニッシュまで持続し、カベルネの繊細でミネラリーなテクスチャーがフルーティーなフレッシュさの上に舞い上がる。 CHATEAU FIGEAC シャトー・フィジャック 生産地：フランス ボルドー サン・テミリオン 原産地呼称：AOC. All the promise it showed as a young barrel sample, is all there in bottle, too. Estate Director Frederic Faye crafted a towering, statuesque Figeac built on vertical energy and a feeling of vibrancy that never lets up. Deep layers of red/purplish fruit, cedar, tobacco, mint and dried flowers are framed by a super-classic expression of structure that keeps things in balance. There is a bit more Cabernet Franc in this year's blend, and that definitely comes through. Very focused and plenty of vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, intense and almost pixelated towards the vibrant, tensile finish. Effortless and classy, this should evolve gracefully for many years. Wafting from the glass with aromas of blackberries, cassis, warm spices, violets and pencil shavings, framed by a deft touch of nicely integrated new oak, it's full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with terrific depth at the core, powdery structuring tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, precise finish. Rich but vibrant, this 2019 reflects the new precision that Frederic Faye has brought to Figeac; but while it's richer and more polished than the wines of yesteryear, the estate's identity hasn't been lost.

The 2018 is a wine of tremendous stature that distinguishes itself in a vintage peppered with stunning wines. I would allow for a few years in bottle to help the tannins soften. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with rich black fruit preserves, framed by sturdy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and tinged with exotic spices. Deep, rich, and full-bodied on the palate, it nevertheless stays perfectly balanced, has ultra-fine, still present tannins, incredible purity, and a gorgeous finish. This is one of those wines where one bottle will never be enough. I think it’s spectacular today, yet it will no doubt evolve for another 20-30 years in cold cellars. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc brought up in new barrels, hats off to Jean-Luc Thunevin for this truly legendary Saint-Emilion! Black cherry, plum, chocolate, dried herbs, menthol, licorice and mocha are all amplified in this potent, luxurious Cheval Blanc. Polished, seamless tannins wrap it all together. Wafting from the glass with aromas of mulberries and cherries mingled with incense, iris and rose petals, framed by a deft touch of new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a velvety attack that segues into a rich, concentrated mid-palate framed by sweet, powdery tannins and concluding with a long, penetrating, rose-inflected finish. One of Bordeaux's most complex terroirs, Cheval Blanc sits on the site of an ancient river delta, with (to generalize) clay-rich soils in the lower-lying parts where rivulets once flowed and gravel and sand elsewhere. This complexity is reflected, of course, in the resulting wine but also in how it is farmed and made, with thoughtful use of cover crops according to soil type and parcel-by-parcel vinification. A concerted effort is being made, moreover, to bring life back to the vineyard, with hedges of native species to act as wildlife corridors and fruit trees planted among the vines. It has a very precise bouquet with fine delineation: copious blackberry, raspberry and crisp strawberry fruit, impressive mineralite with subtle marine scents lapping against the shore. The palate is very composed on the entry. It has an almost Burgundy-like texture. This is very refined and cohesive, silky smooth with a powerful and intense bravura of a finish. Perhaps the most sophisticated wine that Jean-Luc Thunevin had made at that point, it comes highly recommended and is just beginning to drink now. At this youthful stage you can feel the smoky, grilled brush of the oak, which is 70% new, with medium toast, and it’s double toasted to ensure there are no vanillin flavours. This wine will climb upwards and outwards towards the horizon, staking a claim for greatness in 2015. There is plenty of structure, but the tannins are nearly buried by the sheer intensity of the fruit. Hints of lavender, smoke, spice, licorice reappear to round out the finish. L'Eglise-Clinet is 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, aged in 70% new oak. More importantly, the 2015 is a total pleasure bomb. This a fabulous wine from Denis Durantou. Don't miss it.
